ISO 22000 - FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
About ISO 22000
ISO 22000 is the international standard that specifies the requirements for a Food Safety Management System (FSMS). By establishing their FSMS, organizations (food business operators) in the food chain are guided to identify, prevent and control food safety hazards. The FSMS, which includes HACCP principles, ensures safe food products, supplies and food contact materials, whether in manufacturing, production, retail, catering or other types of services.
The effectiveness and sustainability of the FSMS arise from the Plan-Do-Check-Act approach to its continual improvement. An effective FSMS enables organizations to comply consistently with applicable legal requirements, improve operational and financial performance, and widen market acceptance of their products and services.
Organizations certified to ISO 22000 demonstrate to their customers and other stakeholders that their FSMS is operational and undergoes regular audits by an independent third party.
CIP certifies organizations to ISO 22000 that successfully complete CIP’s audit process of their FSMS against the criteria of the standard.
